About Us

To understand me, you kinda need to understand my history...

I grew up around bluegrass music, moonshine, and gnarly bikers with names like "Hog Head". That was sharply contrasted with the inner city, punk rock music, and skateboarding. So, from my early childhood, I saw life from many different lenses. An introduction to Philosophy and Eastern dharmas in high school opened the doors to a whole new world of exploration and a passion for understanding humans and our connection to the ethereal worlds.

A failed attempt at being a touring rockstar and studio musician led me to stumble into an apprenticeship as a hairdresser where I quickly realized the industry had way more to offer than most can see from the surface. Within 6 months of my apprenticeship, I was already teaching product knowledge classes to local salons and I was immediately hooked on being an educator. My career evolved into education, photo shoots, platform artistry, salon ownership, coaching, and multiple positions as an Education Director... all of this while still trying to maintain a full time salon clientele, playing in bands, and developing my own coaching business on the side. As you can tell, I don't really like focusing on one thing, for me the spice of life is diversity.

Today, you will find me still listening to old bluegrass, punk rock, and everything in between while driving to the Dojo to practice Aikido. Or, Michelle and I might be out exploring and camping with our dogs Okie and Rosco, and most likely I will have my camera around my neck trying to capture Mother Nature at her finest. If we aren’t out there, I’m probably in a hammock with a local wine or beer in my hand reading a book on spirituality, mindset, breathwork, coaching, or something else dorky.

Why do I feel it’s important for you to know all of this? Because who I am in life is who I am as a coach and educator. I’ve discovered when we show up authentically in all aspects of life (including career) we stay in the flow and out of the grind.

EDUCATOR:

Within the first 6 months of my apprenticeship in 1999, I started teaching product knowledge classes for TIGI and I haven't stopped my educator journey since that first class!

- Over 300 live and recorded digital classes and videos including the top performing video on the Sam Villa Hair YouTube channel with more than 8 Million views.

- More live classes than I can count from small in-salon or school events to platform artistry at major industry shows.

- Educator for Sam Villa, Paul Mitchell Advanced Education, TIGI, Joe Grooming, Lunatic Fringe Salons, and independently.
